Scania G- and R-series score five stars in Euro NCAP truck safety tests

Scania’s G-series and R-series trucks have achieved five-star ratings in Euro NCAP’s haulage assessment, with the tested trucks recording a 96 per cent score for crash avoidance.
The assessment covered R-series 4×2 tractors and 6×2 rigids as well as G-series 4×2 tractors and 6×2 rigids.
Among the systems contributing to the result are autonomous emergency braking, Scania’s Vulnerable Road User Brake System, Speed Sign Cruise Control, Curve Speed Cruise Control and Safe Stop Assist.
Euro NCAP also awarded both the G- and R-series its City Safe Award. Scania’s L- and P-series had already achieved five-star results, extending the rating across a broader part of the manufacturer’s heavy-truck cab range.
What the score actually measures
Euro NCAP’s truck programme examines more than occupant crash protection. The haulage assessment places significant emphasis on direct vision, collision avoidance and driver-assistance technology relevant to highway and regional freight work.
The R-series was recognised for collision-avoidance performance and its available camera-monitor system, while the lower G-series cab, deep windows and low belt line contribute to direct vision in mixed operating environments.
For fleets, the practical point is specification. Some safety systems and camera equipment can depend on the vehicle configuration ordered, so a model-family rating should not be treated as proof that every truck carries every available feature.
