The appointment was confirmed following TIC’s annual general meeting in Canberra and announced on 2 October 2026. Harbison remains involved as a vice-president alongside Volvo Group Australia’s Tom Chapman.

TIC represents truck manufacturers, importers and distributors, advocating to governments and regulators on policy affecting the national truck fleet.

Emery says the council will continue to advocate for its National Truck Plan, which was updated in 2025 with a focus on a safer, cleaner and more efficient fleet.

He also identified the future Road User Charge as a major priority for industry consultation, saying the council would seek a balanced approach.

Emery brings about four decades of experience across the automotive industry in Australia and South East Asia. His previous industry positions include director of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries and chair of its Importers Group.
