Speedlink Logistics has launched its first A-triple combination in partnership with Arrow Transport, putting the higher-productivity combination to work between Townsville and a major infrastructure project in the Mount Isa region.
The combination has been introduced for a customer working on an infrastructure project adjacent to the mining sector, where large volumes of product need to reach the site within tight delivery windows.
Arrow Transport is providing the A-triple and supporting the operation through its Townsville division, where the combination is loaded and unloaded.
Built around the freight task
Speedlink commercial manager for Australia and New Zealand Patrick Chesterfield said the A-triple was selected because the customer needed to maximise the amount of product delivered into the remote site while meeting demanding delivery windows.
Initial feedback from the customer has been positive, according to Chesterfield, with the combination increasing the amount of product that can be delivered while helping the operation meet its required delivery schedule.
The deployment is a practical example of the role higher-productivity combinations can play on long regional freight tasks. Rather than adding capacity simply for its own sake, the configuration is being used around a defined freight requirement linking the North Queensland coast with the Mount Isa region.
Townsville to Mount Isa
The corridor is an important freight link into North West Queensland, where long distances and remote operating conditions place a premium on payload, reliability and efficient use of vehicle movements.
For Speedlink, the A-triple also represents an expansion of its road-freight capability. The company operates across road, air and sea freight, warehousing and integrated logistics, including industrial machinery and heavy-equipment movements.
New partnership with Arrow Transport
The A-triple project is part of a newly formed relationship between Speedlink and Arrow Transport.
Speedlink had been looking for a national wharf-cartage provider able to provide a broader package of services, including wharf cartage, short-term storage, unpacking, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry-related services and other cargo support.
That relationship has now extended into the North Queensland A-triple task, combining Speedlink’s customer and logistics network with Arrow’s equipment and operational support.
The first A-triple therefore marks more than a fleet milestone for Speedlink. It puts a larger combination into a specific remote freight task where carrying capacity and delivery windows directly influence the logistics solution.
