Volvo and Vawdrey Foodbank combination passes 1,000 tonnes in first year

A Volvo FH I-Save and Vawdrey refrigerated trailer operating for Foodbank NSW & ACT have moved more than 1,000 tonnes of food and fresh produce during their first year in service.
The combination has travelled nearly 15,000 km since joining the fleet in 2025, collecting and delivering food, supporting fresh-food pop-ups and emergency-relief operations across NSW and the ACT.
Volvo Trucks Australia says the dedicated combination has helped Foodbank increase its own collection and distribution capacity and reduce its reliance on outsourced freight.
Foodbank and Volvo say the vehicle has contributed to the distribution of more than 2.1 million meals through a network of more than 700 community partners, as well as moving fruit and vegetables for school breakfast programs.
Transport capacity matters when demand rises
Foodbank NSW & ACT says demand for food relief has increased by 40 per cent. That makes the logistics behind food rescue and redistribution more than a background task: refrigerated transport capacity determines how much perishable food can be collected, how far it can be moved and how quickly it reaches communities.
The truck is an FH I-Save prime mover paired with a refrigerated Vawdrey trailer. Volvo Trucks Australia’s involvement forms part of a partnership with Foodbank NSW & ACT.
