Thornton-based Simmons Bulk Haulage has expanded its fleet with the addition of a new Western Star 48X prime mover, supplied by authorised dealer Trucksmart in Beresfield.

Announced by Trucksmart in late September 2026, the new prime mover was handed over to Wayne and Lisa Simmons.

Under the bonnet, the 48X is fitted with a Detroit DD16 engine. Distributed locally by Penske Australia, the Western Star 48X platform is engineered exclusively for the Australian and New Zealand markets, with DD16 ratings across the model line spanning from 500 hp to 600 hp and 1,850 to 2,050 lb-ft of torque.

Simmons Bulk Haulage is a family-owned operation based in Thornton that has operated across the Hunter Valley for more than 30 years, according to Trucksmart. Company details published by the carrier state that it runs a fleet of 15 prime movers engaged in bulk landscape supplies, poultry cleanout operations, and coal haulage.

Beresfield-based Trucksmart, which operates a 10-bay workshop facility in the region, said it will provide ongoing servicing and parts support for the new vehicle.
