Steering the Future takes truck-safety learning to Kempsey and Temora schools
News · October 3, 2026
Steering the Future brought truck-safety learning to schools in Kempsey and Temora during September, according to the Australian Trucking Association.
The ATA’s 2 October Friday Facts bulletin reported that more than 100 students at Melville High School in Kempsey had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a truck as part of the program’s visit.
The September itinerary also included the Morgan Park Raceway truck races in Warwick, the Kempsey Truck Show, Temora West Public School and Temora High School. The run finished at the Temora Truck Show.
Learning how to share the road
Steering the Future describes itself as an industry-led education and awareness program created by the owners of Truckin’ Life.
Its school visits, community events and interactive displays cover topics including truck blind spots, stopping distances and driver fatigue, alongside the role of road transport.
In feedback published by the ATA, Temora High School careers adviser and VET co-ordinator Tracey Eisenhammer said the heavy-vehicle education helped students understand how to share the road with larger vehicles.
She highlighted the driving simulators as an engaging way to reinforce safety messages.
The ATA sponsors the program. Schools and community groups can find enquiry and booking information on the Steering the Future website.
