Strait Link agrees to acquire Monson Logistics as founder prepares to retire

News · October 20, 2026

Strait Link has entered into an agreement to acquire Tasmanian freight company Monson Logistics from founder Bruce Monson, who is preparing to retire after 34 years in the business.

The agreement was announced by Strait Link on 19 October 2026. Completion is expected in the coming months.

Monson Logistics employs about 100 people and operates 65 prime movers across depots in Burnie, Bell Bay, Hobart and Derrimut in Melbourne, according to Strait Link.

Strait Link chief executive Geoff Gruebner said the businesses had worked together for many years. He said Monson Logistics would continue operating under its existing name as a standalone business, with no changes planned to employees, customers or day-to-day operations.

Bruce Monson and Toni Monson established the business in Burnie in 1992. It has since expanded into road freight, international shipping and project logistics.

Announcing his decision to retire, Bruce Monson said he was proud of what the team had built over 34 years and believed Strait Link was the right owner to take the business forward.

The transaction has been announced but is not yet complete.
